What to film for Reels when you run a local business

Reels ideas for local businesses, from behind the scenes to everyday questions, and how to film them well on a phone.

In this article

Most local business owners know they should post Reels. The harder part is deciding what to film. You do not need a studio or a script: the material is already in your working day, in the work, the people who do it and the questions customers ask.

Show what happens behind the scenes

People are curious about how things are done: a baker shaping dough before opening, a barber finishing a fade, a florist putting a bouquet together. The process shows your skill and care more clearly than any price list. Explain little, let the work speak and keep each video short.

Film the before and the after

For many services, the change itself is the story: a cleaned carpet, a fresh haircut, a finished kitchen. Film the start and the result from the same angle and light, so the difference is clear. Do not filter the result to look better than it is: your next customer will compare the video with what they get.

Introduce your team and your regulars

People choose people. A short video about the person who answers the phone, the chef or a new team member makes your business feel familiar before anyone walks in. Regulars can say in a sentence why they keep coming back. Always ask first, and only post people who have clearly agreed, including anyone in the background.

Answer the questions you hear every day

Every business hears the same questions. How long does it take? Do I need to book? What is the difference between these two options? Each one can become a short video: put the question on screen, answer it plainly and stop. Such videos are quick to make and answer customers before they call.

Hook early and film with care

The first seconds decide whether someone keeps watching, so open with the most interesting moment, not a logo or a slow introduction. Then a few basics make a phone video look considered:

  • Film vertically, so the video fills the screen.
  • Use natural light: face the person towards a window, with no bright light behind them.
  • Keep the phone steady with both hands, or rest it on a small tripod.
  • Add subtitles, because many people watch with the sound off, and check automatic ones before posting.

What to do next

Pick three ideas from this article and film them this week. Post regularly, notice which videos people save, share and ask about, and make more of those. If you would like help with a content plan or filming, the MB Media House team is glad to talk it through.
